Kevin Humphries

Member for Barwon
Minister for Mental Health, Minister for Healthy Lifestyles, and Minister for Western NSW

Kevin Humphries is a community man, passionate about Barwon and its people.

Kevin has strong ties with rural and regional Australia, having grown up in the North West of NSW and proudly calling Moree home for the past 14 years. He is acutely aware of the issues that need tackling within the regions.

Kevin completed a Bachelor of Education externally through the University of New England followed by postgraduate studies and in 1981 started what was to become a 20-year career in teaching and administration, mainly in north west NSW.

The opportunity to work in and be actively involved in regional communities was a highlight for Kevin, a past principal of St Philomena’s in Moree.

After 20 years in education Kevin embarked on a career change, setting up a management consultancy company which allowed him to gain expertise in a number of fields, including the cotton industry, the aged care and retirement sector and in regional development.

This also highlighted to Kevin the many up hill battles and issues faced by regional NSW and he soon discovered a taste for politics.

Kevin joined the National Party in 2002 and continued to work closely with local communities before being elected as Member for Barwon at the State Election in March 2007.

Kevin is married to Linda and has three adult children, Nicholas, Alexander and Georgina.

Barwon covers 30 percent of NSW, spanning from the Queensland border south to Dunedoo and west to Bourke and Brewarrina, and Kevin certainly spends a lot of time on the road visiting Barwon towns and constituents – and he insists he wouldn’t have it any other way.

"I believe Barwon needs strong representation from a party that is committed to country issues. Living in a country area should not be a disadvantage; we have plenty of opportunity to grow our communities and I am here to provide a strong voice for all of the electorate, no matter how remote."

Kevin was previously the Shadow Minister for Preventative Health, Shadow Minister for Mental Health, Shadow Minister for Sports and Recreation as well as Shadow Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Shadow Minister for Western NSW.

In government, Kevin is currently Minister for Mental Health, Minister for Healthy Lifestyles, and Minister for Western NSW.

He believes the appointments were a great honour and that he is determined to achieve the best results for Barwon and the whole of the State.

“First and foremost I am the local Member for Barwon and I will continue to ensure that my electorate gets the government services and attention it deserves.
