Improved dental facilities in the Upper Hunter

Michael Johnsen MP, Member for Upper Hunter, today announced $1.5 million in extra funding to improve dental health facilities in the Upper Hunter as part the redevelopment of Muswellbrook Hospital.

Mr Johnsen said the funding commitment for the Muswellbrook Hospital upgrade to $21.5 million dollars, which includes $20 million in funding from the NSW Government’s Resources for Regions program.

“The Nationals in Government are committed to ensuring regional communities receive their fair share of funding for vital health services.

“The NSW Coalition Government has identified additional funding, based on the needs of our local community, to improve the range of medical services at the Muswellbrook hospital,” Mr Johnsen said.

“Access to vital healthcare is the right of all residents in regional NSW and the extra funding announced today will address the changing needs of the Muswellbrook area now and into the future.”

In addition to the new dental facilities, Stage Two of the Muswellbrook Hospital Redevelopment will deliver a range of health service improvements including:

  • Larger treatment spaces and additional treatment chairs for renal dialysis and chemotherapy
  • Improved spaces for medical imaging and pathology collection
  • Refurbished outpatient areas
  • Enhanced space for patients attending Muswellbrook Hospital for day surgery
  • Improvements to the main entry, reception and admission areas

John Barilaro, Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW, said the additional funding shows the NSW Government is serious about delivering vital healthcare services to regional communities.

“The NSW Government is delivering first-class health services and facilities to the Upper Hunter and putting the seat of Upper Hunter’s regional communities front and centre with a massive rebuilding program across regional NSW,” Mr Barilaro said.

Stage Two follows on the first phase of the Muswellbrook Hospital Redevelopment which was completed in 2015 and included a new Emergency Department.
