HSC exams start underway

Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli has wished more than 77,000 students the very best as the 2016 HSC written exams get underway with English today.

Mr Piccoli said all students should feel extremely proud, especially those about to begin their final school examinations after 13 years of school.

“Obtaining the HSC qualification is a fantastic achievement. It is internationally recognised and the pinnacle for school-based education in Australia,” Mr Piccoli said.

“I wish this year’s HSC students good luck. They have been studying hard all year and I’m sure their hard work will pay off over the next three weeks.

“For any students worried about the exams, healthy eating, getting enough sleep and regular exercise can help to reduce stress. It’s also important to talk to someone if you are feeling overwhelmed.”

NSW has a long-term trend of increasing numbers of students completing Year 12. In 2016 nearly 5,000 more students will sit HSC exams compared to five years ago.

This year, 69,350 students, the highest number on record, are on track to achieve the HSC credential.

Earlier in the year the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government introduced reforms to the HSC which will strengthen the integrity and international standing of the HSC. These reforms will better prepare students for work, training, university and for life after school in the 21st century. These changes will come into effect for Year 12 students in 2019.

118 written exams will be conducted over the next three weeks until exams finish on Friday 4 November with Design and Technology.

Students will receive their results via email, SMS and online from 6am on Thursday 15 December.
