Gillespie inspects local bridge projects

Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie has inspected two of the local bridge projects being funded by the Federal Government in the Manning Valley.

The Federal Government has provided more than $10-million towards the Greater Taree Roads and Bridges package which involves improvements to Gloucester Road, Manning Point Road and the replacement of Dyers Crossing and Dickensen’s bridges.

“During my travels around the electorate I have taken the opportunity to inspect both of local bridge replacements. It is just wonderful to see these two important road projects now underway,” Dr Gillespie said.

Dr Gillespie congratulated Greater Taree City Council’s appointment of contractor Delaney Civil who was ahead of schedule for the two bridges construction timetables.

“The contractor appears to be working hard to deliver these two important bridge projects to plan. With the foundations just about in place, it won’t be long before these two new concrete structures are complete,” Dr Gillespie said.

“The replacement of these two 80-plus year old timber bridges that have well and truly had their day will ensure locals, visitors and those who rely on these routes for industry have a reliable transport corridor well into the future.”

Completion of the new bridges is expected in the middle of the year.
