Funding to show regional NSW's beauty
From the pristine beaches along the NSW coastline to the awe-inspiring Australian outback and magnificent Snowy Mountains, Regional NSW is one of the most unique places in the world to live and work and if you’re lucky enough, to visit.
As proud residents of Regional NSW we know how special it is to have these wonderful sights in our own backyard.
Regional communities know the best way to manage and run the stunning landscape where we live and work.
That’s why, today I am proud to announce the Liberal & Nationals Government has committed $300 million, combined with further private sector funding, to boost our investment in regional tourism and environmental projects.
I strongly encourage regional councils, businesses and tourism organisations to work with their local communities to submit expressions of interest for funding from an initial pool of $100 million.
This important initiative will protect and enrich our precious environmental assets and build new tourism attractions and facilities that will draw more visitors to Regional NSW.
The new Regional Growth – Environment and Tourism Fund will support the innovative businesses and community projects that underpin growth in our regional economies. The NSW Government has received strong support from people in regional communities who are prepared to back projects that create jobs in their backyard and create more vibrant communities.
This new funding is part of The Nationals commitment to ensuring Regional NSW receives its fair share of funding because we know that in the regions, we do our fair share of heavy lifting.
NSW has the strongest regional jobs growth anywhere in the country and because of our economic management we are in a unique position to turbocharge our regional economies.
Under the Rebuilding NSW program the NSW Government has committed $6 billion to Regional NSW. The NSW Nationals will guarantee that this funding will reach regional communities far and wide.
Since 2011 over $2 billion has been invested in 300 projects across Regional NSW, and this is just the beginning.
We have already seen funding committed to upgrade 27 regional airports, the gateway to so many of our communities.
Over the last two weeks, across the state, NSW Nationals MPs have announced the delivery of projects under the Restart NSW Fund including completion of the Wellington Caves Complex in Dubbo, the start of works on the Appleby Lane Upgrade, north of Tamworth, and the start of upgrades to the Snowy Mountains airport in my own electorate.
I am excited to tell you about the opening of the Regional Growth Environment and Tourism Fund and look forward to visiting your backyard to hand over funds to kick-start the exciting projects your community is working on!
