Funding approved for The Bucketts Way Upgrading project

The Abbott-Truss Coalition Government has approved $16 million towards the reconstruction of The Bucketts Way, which delivers on the Coalition 2013 election commitment to improve road safety and efficiency as well as reduce travel times for motorists.

Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie said the works programme for the upgrade included resurfacing 14 kilometres of The Bucketts Way between Purfleet and Craven, through Krambach and Gloucester.

“The Bucketts Way upgrade project forms part of the Coalition’s $50-billion infrastructure package and delivers on an election commitment I made prior to the 2013 election,” Dr Gillespie said.

“Works will involve laying a new road surface, improving drainage and installing safety barriers which will rehabilitate the local road network for the community.”

“Importantly, The Bucketts Way is a corridor for freight and tourism access as well as a major mid north coast transport link, including to the port of Newcastle.”

“Statistics indicate that on average 3000 vehicles per day travel this passage of road.”

Dr Gillespie thanked Deputy Prime Minister and Nationals Leader Warren Truss for his support in including the Bucketts Way upgrade as part of the Coalition’s election platform.

“The Abbott-Truss Coalition Government is delivering the infrastructure that this country needs for a stronger, more productive future. We are investing a record $50-billion in helping to develop the nation’s infrastructure through local and regional road projects, and more significant projects like the Pacific Highway upgrade.”

Construction on the upgrade of The Bucketts Way is expected to commence in April 2015 and be completed by May 2016.
