Member for Lyne
David Gillespie has a long history on the Mid North Coast and spent over twenty years practising as a local gastroenterologist and medical educator. He was elected as The Nationals Member for Lyne in 2013, replacing the independent Rob Oakeshott.
In July 2016, David was elevated to the role of Assistant Minister for Rural Health and in 2017 was appointed Assistant Minister for Health, to acknowledge his increasing responsibility in the health portfolio.
As part of his medical career, David has been involved in both small business and the education of local doctors. Together with his wife Charlotte, David built the Hastings Day surgery from the ground up and learnt first-hand the demands of running a small business in a regional area.
David also spent over a decade as Director of Physician Training at Port Macquarie Base Hospital and was instrumental in providing new local doctors the necessary skills to serve the community and build careers in regional medicine.
For David though, the most important thing is his family. With Charlotte he has raised three children at their small cattle property in Sancrox.
David put his hand up to be Lyne’s representative in the Federal Parliament to ensure that our future generations have the opportunity to succeed.
