Celebrate Australia Day 2016 in the Monaro

The Member for Monaro John Barilaro has encouraged Monaro residents to come together and celebrate Australia’s rich and diverse culture this Australia Day, by joining a community celebration.

Mr Barilaro said this year’s theme is Australia Day – Everyone, Everywhere and a number of events are being held in Queanbeyan, Cooma, Bombala, Jindabyne, Adaminaby, Captains Flat, Braidwood, Michelago, Bredbo, Numeralla and Nimmitabel.

“Australia Day is the perfect time to celebrate the important role every Australian, wherever they are, plays in our society,” Mr Barilaro said.

“It is a day to stop and acknowledge how fortunate we are to live in this beautiful, tolerant and free country. As a son of Italian migrants I learnt very early in life that this country was a place of great opportunity.

“Today is also an important day for many new Australians, who come from all corners of the world, and will take the oath at citizenship ceremonies across the Monaro. One of my favourite things to do on Australia Day is attend a citizenship ceremony; it’s always such a great honour to welcome new citizens to our wonderful country.”
