Connecting our communities

In regional NSW our road and rail corridors are pivotal in keeping our economies and communities connected.

That is why we are investing $400 million in upgrading our regional rail tracks as part of the Fixing Country Rail program to get our produce to market faster and make our country roads safer.

This fund, championed by the NSW Roads and Freight Minister, Melinda Pavey, is key to unlocking growth for our regional businesses. Demand for this program has been extensive and we have already seen the successful pilot programs take off in areas like Moree, Hillston and Barellan.

Expressions of interest are now open for an initial $150 million of the $400 million fund.

The NSW Government is also overseeing funding for the popular Fixing Country Truck Washes initiative which will see important improvements to the way biosecurity is managed in regional areas and build a strong, reliable freight transport network.

The NSW Government is always looking for ways to make life easier for rural, regional and remote businesses.

Fixing Country Truck Washes is a $10 million joint NSW and Australian Government initiative that will provide safety, productivity, and environmental benefits to the local community. This is a small area where the Government can make a big difference and we are proud to see these upgrades begin on 26 projects across country NSW.

In the coming weeks we will start to hear more about what is slated for regional NSW over the next 12 months as the State Treasurer and Ministers prepare to deliver the NSW Budget.

As we approach the new financial year I am reminded about the tough but fair decisions the NSW Liberals and Nationals Government have made to turn the NSW economy around and get the budget back in black.

Earlier this month, May, this government finalised the successful lease of 50.4 per cent of Endeavour Energy, the final stop on our election commitment in 2015 to partially lease the state's major poles and wires assets.

This is a great accomplishment for our state and has given us the financial freedom to invest in projects that include upgrading our country roads, rail and even truck washes.
