Barnaby and Wacka
My good mate Senator John “Wacka” Williams told our Nationals team that he has Parkinson’s, a degenerative neurological disease.
Wacka wasn’t expecting to be diagnosed with this, but about 32 Australians are each day.
There is still no known cure for Parkinson’s disease but Wacka is a fighter. He is fearless, tenacious and his diagnosis will not hinder his ability to continue to fight for regional Australia’s best interests.
Wacka has been an invaluable member of The Nationals ever since he joined us in the Senate back in 2008. He has been the strong voice in Federal Parliament that people of regional Australia deserve.
His has shown a strong commitment to ensuring country people have access to adequate health care and dentistry services - which is why he has sponsored the NSW Regional Dentistry Scholarship since 2009. His hard work means small businesses have benefited from cuts to unnecessary red tape and as a direct result of his efforts, the elderly have received more medical attention.
I look forward to continuing to serve alongside Wacka over the next few years in Federal Parliament. His doctors have told him he can see out his Senate term.
He is calling on all of us to not ignore the symptoms. Whether it is a family member or yourself experiencing them, please go to the doctor and get a check-up as the disease affects people from all walks of life and everyone differently.
