Appointment as Assistant Minister for Health

Dr David Gillespie has welcomed the announcement by the Prime Minister that The Hon Greg Hunt MP will be appointed the new Minister for Health and Minister for Sport.

“Greg has proven himself to be a very good Cabinet Minister and will bring to the health portfolio the drive needed to ensure important reforms are delivered by our government at the most senior levels,” Dr Gillespie said.

“The Prime Minister has also announced that I will be re-appointed to the Ministry with the new title of Assistant Minister for Health continuing on with my existing responsibilities in regional, rural, remote health, health workforce, food policy and health safety.

“I will also be working with Greg on a broader number of policy areas across the health portfolio to ensure Australia’s health system continues to lead the world in health care delivery, health innovation and research.”

“The Nationals have a particular focus on regional Australia, and my appointment will ensure rural health continues to remain front and centre of the government’s agenda in the health portfolio,” Dr Gillespie said.

Dr Gillespie also congratulated The Hon Ken Wyatt AM, MP on his appointment at the Minister for Aged Care and Minister for Indigenous Health.

“Ken is the first indigenous MP to be elected to the House of Representatives and the Ministry, and has come from a health administration background. Ken’s consultative approach will ensure the government delivers the reforms needed to further improve aged care and indigenous health throughout this term of Parliament,” he added.
