Anderson announces $10,000 for Tamworth Truck Drivers memorial

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has announced a grant of $10,000 towards the expansion of the Tamworth Truck Drivers Memorial.

Mr Anderson said the Truck Drivers Memorial was built in 2000 to remember drivers who lost their lives while working or who dedicated their lives to the transport industry.

“The grant will ensure the memorial remains a fitting tribute to those in the transport industry.

“The NSW Government will provide a one-off grant of $10,000 to Tamworth Regional Council so the Tamworth Truck Drivers Memorial can be expanded,” Mr Anderson said.

Tamworth Truck Driver Club Life Member Gary Gracie said it was a relief to hear that thet Club was granted the funding.

‘There are currently 180 plaques in honour of truck drivers who have lost their lives on our roads and this money will allow us to ‘future proof’ the memorial and create more space for the years to come,” Mr Gracie said.

Mr Anderson said the NSW Government will provide the funding to Tamworth Regional Council, which has agreed to oversee the delivery of the project in consultation with the Tamworth Truck Drivers Club.

“The memorial is an important part of the trucking community and is used for remembrance services by the Tamworth Truck Drivers Club and it was a pleasure to be able to support this worthwhile project,” Mr Anderson said.
