A message from Scott Barrett
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your overwhelming support of my efforts in Orange over the past five months.
By-elections are always tough – this one was particularly tough – but we fought hard and were gallant in our efforts.
I want to thank everyone who helped me along the way and I hesitate to single out any one person, as the list of support and assistance during this time is a long one. From the branch members who welcomed me as their elected candidate following preselection, to the scrutineers who assisted me until the dying hours of the counting process, I am so grateful for your time.
While I’m disappointed, the message from voters on the day was pretty clear; we need to take stock of what happened, listen to the issues and work to re-engage the community. I remain confident that The Nationals are still the only party that can truly represent regional NSW and I will continue to help spread that message alongside the Nats family.
There are a few things I’m personally proud to have achieved during this period, and commitments from the NSW Government I will fight to ensure are honoured. Additional parking at the Orange Health Service, funding for the Parkes Airport, greater investment into the Molong MPS, money to further investigate improvements to the Newell Highway between Parkes and Forbes and emergency funding for all local councils to assist in remedying the damage done to our local roads during an unseasonably wet winter, are just some of the outcomes I will push to see delivered.
The reasons that I stood at this by-election have not changed - I love the Central West and it will always be my home. I will continue to work to make it a better place.
