New look Neighbourhood Centre Opens

A refurbished Snowy Mountains Neighbourhood Centre in Jindabyne was officially opened by the Member for Monaro John Barilaro this week.

The $40,220 upgrade of the Centre was made possible through the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership program.

“The Snowy Mountains Neighbourhood Centre is a community-based organisation that runs programs and offers services to support the wellbeing of people living in the area,” said Mr Barilaro.

“It houses Jindabyne’s French Language Group, St. Vincent DePaul welfare support,

the Snowy Youth Council and the Jindabyne chapter of Narcotics and Alcoholic Anonymous, just to name a few.

“The centre was in need of an upgrade and I’m pleased that the NSW Government saw fit to make funding available to ensure that the centre remains a pleasant place for clients to visit.

“It has brought to my attention that the Centre’s funding through the Federal Department of Social Services is in danger of being cut.

“The Snowy Mountains Neighbourhood Centre supports thousands of residents, visitors and winter staff with its provision of social services and initiatives. I have long been a supporter of the Centre, understanding its importance to the Snowy River Shire community.

“I have made representations to the Federal Government seeking their assistance in continuing the Centre’s funding.”
