$500,000 for regional arts fellowships

The NSW Government is further strengthening opportunities for professional regional artists with ten $50,000 fellowships available over the next four years.

The fellowships are part of a major new scheme delivered by the NSW Government to grow arts and culture in regional NSW, and complement the recent announcement to support 100 young regional artists in a competitive annual scholarship program.

Deputy Premier and Minister for the Arts Troy Grant said applications are open to artists based in regional NSW in all art forms including dance, digital arts, history, Aboriginal arts and culture, literature, music, theatre, screen and the visual arts, to further develop their careers.

“We are committed to supporting initiatives in regional areas that develop career pathways, arts leadership and thriving local arts scenes,” Mr Grant said.

“Artists based in our regions play a pivotal role in developing local cultural communities and the Government is focused on providing opportunities for skills development.

“Supporting arts in regional NSW is a key focus of the Government’s new Create in NSW framework which guides strategy, investment and partnerships to grow a thriving, globally connected arts and cultural sector in our State,” Mr Grant said.

Two fellowships are available this year with applications open from 1 July to 24 August 2015 for professional artists and art and cultural workers.

For the purpose of this fellowship, regional NSW is defined as Local Government (Council) Areas (LGAs) outside the metropolitan and metropolitan fringe of Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong.
