Health Minister Jillian Skinner and Myall Lakes MP Stephen Bromhead visited Manning Hospital to announce a re-elected Baird Government will invest $20 million to begin its major redevelopment.
Mrs Skinner said if the Government is re-elected on March 28, work will commence on the Manning Hospital upgrade in the next term.
“Manning Hospital is a fantastic facility which has cared for its community for decades. It’s in need of some TLC, which is why we are committing $20 million to start the upgrade in the next term of government,” Mrs Skinner said.
“Make no mistake - a vote for Labor is a vote which guarantees more of Labor’s neglect of this great hospital.
“Stage 1 of the Manning Hospital upgrade is the first step in the major redevelopment of this facility and will deliver a significant enhancement of cancer care and renal services.
“The redevelopment will improve much-needed access for patients receiving renal dialysis or chemotherapy, and support the creation of space for critical services such as intensive care.”
Mr Bromhead welcomed the announcement, saying it is a game-changer for clinicians and the community.
“There’s not a member of our community who doesn’t believe in the incredible work of doctors, nurses and others at Manning Hospital,” Mr Bromhead said.
“Campaigning for this funding has been a labour of love. I’m proud it has paid off and that the redevelopment will be delivered under a re-elected Baird Government.
“This investment is a tribute to the hard-working staff at Manning Hospital who have been delivering their top-rate care in trying conditions.
“Today’s announcement will benefit not only staff but patients from across our region. I have no doubt it will also act as a magnet to attract staff to this great hospital.”
Deputy Premier Troy Grant said the Baird Government has a clear record of delivering hospital and health service upgrades right across rural and regional NSW.
“Manning will be one of the next cabs off the rank if we are re-elected,” Mr Grant said.
“Stephen Bromhead is a champion of Manning Hospital. He has advocated strongly to ensure it is a high priority in the government’s capital works program and I’m pleased to say he has delivered.
“The Baird Government has spent its first term investing record dollars into regional health to ensure local patients have access to quality care closer to home. Manning Hospital’s upgrade is a great example of this commitment in action.”
