$180 million to finalise major redevelopment of Lismore Hospital

NSW Deputy Premier Troy Grant, Health Minister Jillian Skinner and Lismore MP Thomas George have announced a $180 million commitment to finalise the major redevelopment of Lismore Hospital.

Once complete, the Stage 3B Lismore Hospital redevelopment will expand the critical care services to include new operating theatres, maternity services, new inpatient beds, medical imaging, paediatric beds, ambulatory/outpatient areas, and clinical and non-clinical support areas.

Mr Grant said the final piece of Lismore Hospital’s redevelopment will be funded and delivered if the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government is re-elected on March 28.

“Thomas George has been a tireless local champion for the Lismore community to see the dream of this much-needed redevelopment become a reality for clinicians and patients alike.

“Lismore Hospital delivers kind, compassionate and quality care to local patients but is a tired facility in need of major redevelopment. Work is already underway on-site for the $80 million Stage 3A upgrade which is due for completion mid-next year.

“This additional $180 million represents the final piece of the puzzle and will ensure the hospital can care for the needs of a growing community well into the future,” Mr Grant said.

Mrs Skinner said with a clear record in delivering hospital upgrades, only the Liberals & Nationals can be trusted to complete the redevelopment of Lismore Hospital.

“In our first term we have delivered health upgrades to Lismore and from Bega to Byron Bay, Parkes to Port Macquarie, Tamworth to Dubbo and Wollongong to Wagga Wagga - hospital redevelopments are underway right across rural and regional NSW,” Mrs Skinner said.

“During its 16 years in government, Labor sat on its hands as Lismore outgrew its hospital. In stark contrast, the Liberals & Nationals are getting on with the job of modernising the facility for the benefit of patients and staff in what is one of the fastest growing regions in NSW.”

Mr George said the announcement marks a record investment in health services for the people of Lismore and the Northern Rivers.

“Lismore Hospital plays a vital role in caring for communities from across Northern NSW and this funding will deliver us a first-class facility we can be proud of,” Mr George said.

“For decades I have been a tireless advocate of the care and comfort provided by Lismore Hospital and I have fought hard to deliver this upgrade for my community for many years.

“This redevelopment will also ensure our hard-working doctors, nurses and support personnel who have been working in trying conditions will have the workplace they deserve and go a long way to attracting quality staff to live and work in our area.”

If re-elected, the Liberals & Nationals Government will make a record investment of more than $5 billion in infrastructure to make our health system the strongest in the country – which will result in total infrastructure spend reaching almost $10 billion over an eight year period.

Put simply, the Baird Government will spend more in eight years than Labor spent in the entire16 years it was in government.
