NSW Deputy Premier Troy Grant, Health Minister Jillian Skinner and Coffs Harbour MP Andrew Fraser announced a re-elected Baird Government will invest $156 million into the major redevelopment of Coffs Harbour Hospital.
The $156 million investment will see enhancements to the existing surgical and operating theatres in addition to new theatres, a new short stay surgical unit, orthopaedic and vascular unit, ambulatory care area and the expansion of community health.
Mr Grant said work will begin on the project in the next term of the Liberals & Nationals Government, if re-elected on March 28.
“This $156 million investment in Coffs Harbour Hospital will be a game-changer for the mid north coast,” Mr Grant said.
“Coffs Harbour has a fantastic hospital with dedicated staff who deserve to deliver their first-class care in a first-class facility.
“Andrew Fraser has worked hard for his community to see this dream turned into a reality.
“The hospital provides care to the community as well as thousands of tourists who visit the mid north coast every year and this upgrade will ensure it meets the growing demand.”
Mrs Skinner said the Liberals & Nationals Government has a clear record of delivering hospital upgrades on the mid north coast and beyond.
“When we commit to a hospital upgrade, we make it happen. From Port Macquarie to Wauchope and Kempsey, this Government has invested record funding in hospital and health service upgrades. Coffs Harbour is the next cab off the rank,” Mrs Skinner said.
“Only the Liberals & Nationals Government can be trusted to enhance rural and regional health services. We have a proven track record of rebuilding hospitals for the benefit of patients and staff.”
Mr Fraser welcomed the announcement saying an upgrade for Coffs Harbour Hospital is much-needed.
“Coffs Harbour Hospital is at the very heart of our community. The care provided is second to none, which is why this funding is well-deserved and long-awaited,” Mr Fraser said.
“I know clinicians and the community alike will join me in welcoming this news and I’m pleased the Health Minister has heard my calls and is committing to this upgrade. It will improve the way Coffs Harbour delivers health care for our community now and in the future.
“The $156 million complements the $8 million allocated in the 2014/15 Budget for a new multi-storey car park at Coffs Harbour Hospital and that project is well underway.”
If re-elected, the Liberals & Nationals Government will make a record investment of more than $5 billion in infrastructure to make our health system the strongest in the country – which will result in total infrastructure spend reaching almost $10 billion over an eight year period.
